WHY WE ASK FOR DONATIONS

Our farm was created in order to grow a future in which we would all would want to live.

Many farms are ideally suited to perform a whole host of community services that most other businesses, or even individuals, are unable to facilitate.  However, values and ideals don't necessarily pay the bills - especially in an industry (small scale agriculture) in which it is notoriously hard to make a profit.  Your donation enables us to recognize the potential impact we can make.  In other words, YOU make a positive impact on the present + future when you donate to one of our programs.

We do not ask you for contributions lightly.  We do so believing whole heartedly that small urban farms are inherently positioned in a way to collectively make incredibly impactful improvements in the lives of their customers, neighbors, city residents (human and critter alike), and even the world.

In addition to a farm, Dirt Beast Farm is......

  • Green Space - Many of the surrounding properties are owned by out-of-state developers, who remove all vegetation from their properties aside from grass lawns and maybe a couple ornamental bushes.  This drives up the temperature in our neighborhood creating a heat-island effect, resulting in higher energy bills for our neighbors in the summer.  Green Space helps mitigate that effect.

  • Green Jobs - for every vacant lot we can put under production, we can create $3,822 of employment each year.  A Green Job at Dirt Beast Farm builds valuable skills amongst our fieldhands, spurring on the next generation of farmers.

  • Native Wildlife Habitat - the land with which we cannot put into production has been dedicated to Wildlife Habitat for migratory and resident birds, pollinators, and other critters to find refuge within the busy and often dangerous city.

  • Stray Cat Caretaking - our city is bursting at the seams with stray animals, to the point where our shelters cannot keep up with the number of animals that need care.  Our farm serves as one of the first lines of care - stray cats that find their way onto our farm are captured, spay/neutered, vaccinated, rehomed if possible, or cared for on our farm as part of our Farm Cat Colony.

Become a Farm Steward!

By becoming a Farm Steward, you enable us to provide the valuable community services that urban farms are ideally positioned to administer.  Sponsor our work planting habitat for our bird, bug, plant, and critter friends; feeding, trapping, spay/neutering, vaccinating, and rehoming our resident stray cat population; as well as the enriching community classes and events that we would otherwise be unable to provide.

Select a recurring donation and you'll be added to our monthly Farm Steward newsletter, where you'll get updates on our progress, along with wildlife photos taken by Farmer Jameson of what critters are making Dirt Beast Farm their home, and updates on how the cats are doing (along with some CUTE AF photos of our resident feline friends :).   You'll also be invited to our annual Farm Stewards Dinner, an invite only event for our MVPs!
